The food I make at work. Except I improvised for a friend. I think this is prettier.

This holiday week was far too long.  Far, far too long.  No, I didn’t have a holiday.  I worked throughout the festival of freedom.  C’est la vie.  Frankly, although I was a little pissed about it all, I think I managed to be adult.  I did holiday-esque things.  I met up with friends.  Many of them.  Spent quality time catching up, drinking at cafes, taking long walks through interesting neighborhoods.  I got career advice, had girl talk, shared some meals, breathed fresh air.  I forced myself to start reading a non-fiction book.  I even managed to clean a large portion of my house.

But I still felt, and continue to feel, like a zombie.  For your viewing pleasure, images from my sleepwalking zombie Passover week.

Came upon a small, fascinating neighborhood. Maybe called the American Colony. Between Jaffa and Florentine. Lots of 19th century European and American buildings, getting renovated, a lovely church, and new condos, like this, being built. Notice the lower floors have a sort of stone finish & wooden shutters. I think it's sort of awesome.

The older buildings and the church in the distance. So lovely there. And so expensive.

Tiny hut from bygone years. In the middle of vast gentrification.

I never noticed this mural before. It's blurry, but you can make out a scene from the 1920's, a car, a horse, people. I doubt it was painted in the 20s, but I doubt even more that the convenience market put it there. Corner of Dizengoff and Esther HaMalka.

I LOVE this kind of car. It's a Subaru. Like a mad scientist's hybrid between a compact car and a pickup truck. Only Subaru, makers of safe and awesome, yet some of the world's ugliest cars. I was told by a friend that this model has the highest theft rate in Israel. Don't know if it's true, but the evidence is compelling. The Subaru is rugged and useful yet small and efficient. Bedouins use them all over the Negev desert. Oh - here's a punchline - the owners are too embarrassed to report their cars missing, as they would have to admit they actually chose to drive one of these! Badumdum. Oh well. Congratulations Subaru: the car of choice amongst Israeli auto thieves!

For one night, and one night only, ladies and gents, may I present, "used Korean car"!

Oh, no, a falling cow!

Oh, no, a falling cow AND a falling turtle!

By far the cutest cup of tea I have ever had, drunk with some great friends.

My apartment is ready for its closeup

It’s been forever. I know.

Since I’ve written I have:

  • Created a wonderful wine tasting for a food bloggers’ dinner
  • Meditated until my butt and thighs and back no longer hurt from the experience
  • Discovered my sister’s grilled cheese sandwich press (sizzling behind me at the moment)
  • Returned to vegetarian tendencies given up ten years ago after being inspired by my Buddhist learning and reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals. Read it, please.
  • Worked worked worked worked for my various clients
  • Been on a few first dates, which says something
  • Witnessed a near suicide bus-bomb in central Tel Aviv
  • Developed a beautiful friendship
  • Been filmed for 4 days for an international television show called House Hunters International (I don’t believe I can speak more about it for contractual reasons – but believe me – it was an incredibly interesting and awesome experience – made even more so by the most chill fab camera/sound/directing crew that ever was)
  • Broken up with my therapist
  • Drunk some really incredible wine (I adore the winery I work for, I really truly do)
  • Watched the entirety of FlashForward in about 5 days and was horrified to learn it was canceled (what is it with crappy TV execs who can the most exciting, thought-provoking shows, e.g. Firefly)
  • Had my poor Fischer cat in the hospital for nearly a week with a blocked up bladder – had to have surgery which turned him into a her – and it cost me a bloody fortune.
  • AND – now I’m flying to the United States for 3+ weeks! AND if you can believe it, I bought the ticket 3 days ago.  One of the most last-minute crazy-ass trips I’ve ever, ever organized (or not organized, as so happens).  Even when I went to India, I got the ticket 2 weeks before I went.  Ah, life

So…getting back into blogging sucks.  When you finally get on a roll, you’re on a roll.  That’s what I’m attempting to do.  I’m going to post some pics, have some laughs, and send me some love in the form of comments, my dears.
